There is no consensus on a list of seven natural wonders of the world, but Victoria Falls is apparently there and well, you can tell me your opinion after this post.

Vic Falls presents a spectacular sight of awe-inspiring beauty and grandeur on the Zambezi River, forming the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe.

It was described by the Kololo tribe living in the area in the 1800’s as ‘Mosi-oa-Tunya’ – ‘The Smoke that Thunders’. In more modern terms Victoria Falls is known as the greatest curtain of falling water in the world.

Columns of spray can be seen from miles away as, at the height of the rainy season, more than five hundred million cubic meters of water per minute plummet over the edge, over a width of nearly two kilometers, into a gorge over one hundred meters below.

There are tons of activities around Vic Falls. Indeed the local economies (of Livingstone, Zambia and of Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe) are based only on this. Bring USD, but were applicable try to pay in Kwacha (local currency – is going to be much cheaper)!

Now, after your arrival, what to do?

When you start your journey, you should start with a sunset cruise on the mighty Zambezi river, enjoying a glass of wine, spotting hyppos and crocodiles. Nature is the quietest in this part of the world and the gently-moving river will take you in a relaxed dance into the Zambian forest.

Have a laugh and relax. You need to preserve some energy for the next days!

They say, morning is gold, especially with a bit of physical activity. Indeed, why not canoing? Trying to avoid hyppos and crocodiles, of course.

But after having trained resistance, now you need a bit of “adrenaline rush“. Having a bath on the cutting edge of the falls or a micro-light flight 300 mt above them will do the job. However, that’s not for faint-hearted. Be careful!

And then, have a quick walk under the water of the falls, on the other side, almost entering Zimbabwe in the Victoria Falls National Park

So what are you waiting for? Catch the first plane, and explore this wonderful part of the world!
